West Ashley

West Ashley is the largest suburb of Charleston, framed by the Ashley and Stono Rivers. Known to locals as the birthplace of Charleston, it offers a more established, Lived-in feel compared to the newer master-planned suburbs. It is divided by the I-526 loop: Inside 526 offers eclectic, walkable neighborhoods like Avondale with its trendy bistros and boutiques, while Outside 526 provides more spacious residential communities, expansive parks, and major retail hubs. The district is defined by its outdoor lifestyle, anchored by the 8-mile West Ashley Greenway and a continuous wave of revitalization projects, including the massive Ashley Landing mixed-use redevelopments.
